The Government Equalities Office have launched an online gender pay gap reporting service allowing an employer with 250 employees or more to publish their annual gender pay data. Under the legislation, employers must both: (1) publish their gender pay gap data and a written statement on their public-facing website; and (2) report their data to the Government online.

The online gender pay gap reporting service has been designed to meet the second requirement. The information companies have published can be seen on the gender pay gap viewing service. At the time of writing, four companies have already published their data.

The Independent report that some companies have released their data, prior to publication on the gender pay gap viewing service site. Virgin Money disclosed that men who work at the bank earn, on average, 36% more than women. At asset manager Schroders, the pay gap was 31%. Utility SSE reported an average pay gap of 23.4%, and consulting firm PwC said it found a 15% difference in pay.
