EU improves delivery of online equality information

A new website on employment, social affairs and equal opportunities has been launched by the European Commission (http://ec.europa.eu/social ).The site aims to explain how European Union policies benefit citizens. It also provides more detailed and technical information for specialised audiences including policy-makers, stakeholder organisations, the media and experts. The website was launched to coincide with the Commission’s adoption of a renewed social agenda for the EU.

The features offered by the new website include regularly updated news and articles, improved navigation, a dedicated search engine, an e-library gathering together important documents and publications, and a multimedia section.

In tandem, the Academic Network of European Disability experts (ANED) have launched their website at https://dev.thehrdirector.com/manager/www.disability-europe.net.%20. ANED was established by the European Commission in 2008 to provide academic and scientific support and advice for its non-discrimination policy. In particular, the activities of the Network will support the future development of the EU Disability Action Plan.

The Network includes national contacts in 30 European countries and experts in particular fields who contribute analysis on specific themes. It is therefore a very ambitious project that seeks to promote the sharing of research and policy knowledge, and public access to relevant information about the situation of disabled people in European countries and the development of polices for equality and social inclusion. The website includes information about the work of ANED, links to detailed information and resources in each country, and reports on key themes.
