Jobs up eight percent Q3 2014

New figures from the totaljobs.com Q3 2014 Barometer show an eight percent month-on-month (MoM) spike in the number of jobs posted on the site in September, as well as record breaking yearly growth.

The UK’s largest jobs board saw postings grow by 14 percent year-on-year (YoY) – the highest yearly growth figure since the totaljobs.com Barometer was launched. The totaljobs.com Q3 2014 Barometer also shows quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth of seven percent. New jobs in the transport and logistics sector have contributed toward this growth, with a staggering 18 percent increase in job postings MoM and a 26 percent increase compared to the last quarter. Banking, insurance and finance jobs are also performing well – up 13 percent MoM and 12 percent QoQ, and accountancy jobs saw a seven percent MoM and a nine percent QoQ increase.

Retail jobs were also up in September – eight percent compared to August and 13 percent compared to the last quarter. There has also been an eight percent MoM increase in customer service roles and a 15 percent increase QoQ. The totaljobs.com Barometer analyses the behaviour of 5,000 recruitersandprovides one of the most comprehensive representations of the UK job market – importantly reporting three months ahead of official ONS statistics. Ian Burke, director at totaljobs.com, said: “Our latest Barometer data confirms the upward employment trend in the UK and points to much higher business confidence levels in the last month. It’s interesting to see that transport and logistics jobs have seen such a large increase. Clearly major infrastructure projects like Crossrail are having a real impact, as well as the growth in online shopping, which has given a significant boost to the logistics industry. It’s no surprise to see retail jobs steadily increasing as we move into the festive season. Many retailers are already starting their seasonal recruitment drives to ensure they have enough staff to manage the Christmas rush.” Unfortunately for younger job seekers, graduate and trainee jobs were down by three percent month on month, although up four percent compared to the last quarter. Totaljobs.com is one of the UK’s leading job boards, attracting over 5.9 million jobseekers every month on the hunt for one of the 130,000 live vacancies the site carries at any one time. This activity generates over 2.4 million applications a month, cementing totaljobs.com strong reputation among jobseekers and recruiters alike.
