At
the recent Employee Engagement
Conference, organized by its ORC International conference, senior HR delegates
were invited to vote for their ‘fantasy management board’ and TV celebrity
Simon Cowell was selected as the ideal company chief executive and Joanna Lumley
as HR Director.

Simon’s charisma, vision, and excellent
decision-making skills, coupled with his inspirational leadership abilities set
him apart from other candidates, while the driven, results-focused approach of
Gordon Ramsay would make him an ideal operations manager, delegates decided.
 
Management and leadership were important themes of the conference, held in
London last month and addressed by HR experts from organisations including; the
NHS, Tarmac and Marks and Spencer. All these senior figures insisted on the
need for management buy-in if organisations are to succeed in fostering an
engaged and well-motivated workforce.

The
conference’s choice of Joanna Lumley as their ideal HR manager makes sense.
Delegates selected Lumley for this position because of her perceived ‘people
skills’
