Online recruitment up, but HR opportunities still falling

April’s Monster online recruitment index indicated that although online job opportunites have increased by two percent overall, the HR sector has fallen by a further five percent.

The rise in opportunities was accounted for by increased demand in healthcare, social work, education as well as library, training, management and consulting work.

It appears companies are still scaling back on HR: however the transferrable skills offered by these professionals may mean mangerial and consultancy work may prove an area of migration.

The housing sector continues to be difficult, with construction falling five percent. This means it is now at its lowest level since 2005.

Online job demand for managers and professionals rose by two percent in April, while hiring of technicians and associate professionals edged slightly higher.

Although available vacancies remain well below year-earlier levels following a marked slowdown in hiring for these occupations during 2008, this monthly growth indicates an increase in demand for skilled white-collar workers.

Hugo Sellert, head of economic research, at Monster Worldwide said: “Although demand for workers remains significantly lower than last year, signs of stabilisation are appearing across sectors of the economy. Meanwhile, there continues to be strong demand for education and healthcare workers to fill existing vacancies.”
