Fears of AI replacing jobs driving millions to change careers

The results reveal the transformative impact of AI on the job market, with millions of workers considering a career change in the new year due to fears of being replaced by AI-driven systems. The findings indicate that nearly one in five employees (19%) plan to shift careers in 2025, driven by concerns about the long-term viability of their roles in their current industries.

The Workplace Survey – The Impact of AI*, has revealed the transformative impact of AI on the job market, with millions of workers considering a career change in the new year due to fears of being replaced by AI-driven systems. The findings indicate that nearly one in five employees (19%) plan to shift careers in 2025, driven by concerns about the long-term viability of their roles in their current industries.

This trend is even higher with younger workers, with more than one in four (27%) currently looking for a new career path as they believe tech advancements will make their current roles redundant.

Interestingly, 40% of respondents revealed they would turn to AI tools, such as ChatGPT, to assist them in their job search. These tools are being leveraged not only to draft resumes and cover letters but also to refine interview preparation, identify suitable job openings, and enhance networking strategies, highlighting a growing reliance on AI for navigating career transitions.

The survey also reveals a call for greater transparency and trust in how AI is integrated into recruitment and employment processes.

Craig Bines, CEO of CareerWallet, commented, “AI has the potential to revolutionise many industries, but our latest survey indicates that job seekers are concerned it may impact their careers. We must ensure that AI tech is implemented in a way that creates trust and provides clear advantages to employees, not just employers.”
